10 Parts of Scaffolding

Scaffolding is temporary work access created for workers who will carry out in area with minimal access. Scaffolding is usually built by skilled workers called scafolders. After use, scaffolding will be dismantle again.

The scaffolding that common used is scaffolding made from metal material, which has better durability and strength than other scaffolding. Metal scaffolding has several important part in structure, What are they? this explanation.

1. Base Plate

Base plate usually placed at the base of the scaffolding for support the load so that it remains stable. Base plate can also to prevent excessive movement of the scaffolding structure. If scaffolding buillt on the ground, so base plate need to be cover with base boards.

2. Standard

Standard pipe is pipe the are stand to the top, function to be main stand scaffolding structure. When standard is erected must be straight and precision, must to be measured with waterpass from x and y angle.

3. Transom

Transom is connecting pipe between front standard pipe with back standard pipe. First transom minimum have 15 cm range from bottom, and locked with dead clamp. The end of pipe transom is not be more then 15 cm long.

4. Ledger

Ledger is pipe that connected the standard at the front or at the back. Almost similar with transom, it is also locked with dead clamp. Ledger and transom is installed on the inside of the scaffolding structure.

5. Bracing

Bracing is dioganal pipe that connected between standard pipe with other standar pipe. Bracing usually secured with dead clamp. Pipe bracing have leght 6 meter maximum, if this is the maximum then make new bracing, don't conneting the pipe.

6. Toprail

Toprail is guardrill that prevent falls, intalled with height arround waist adult height. However, accroding SKB number 174/104 about HSE construction guide, height of toprail is 95 cm, but at the several standard that set height of toprail is between 90-100 cm. 

7. Midrail

Midrail is guardril under toprail, that usually intalled with range 50 cm from toprail. Midrail and toprail usually intalled use fixed clamp. Midrail is important and become one part to safety in work at height.

8. Putlog

The posisition putlog almost similar like transom, but putlog installed to supprt for based of the platform. Putlog installed use specially clamp, named is putlog clamp. The putlog fuction to platform support so more stranger and not broke easily.

9. Platform

Platform is base for the worker, with a minumum width of 50 cm. The platform can be installed using boards, or other materials such as asiba. The Platform is also usually locked with a board clamp, but can also be tied using wire.

10. Toaboard

Toaboard is installed under the midrail using planks or asiba. The fuction of the toaboard is to prevent workers feet from falling and prevent materials from falling. Usually taboard are installed with a standard height of 15 cm.
